Russia will continue gas supplies from October 12 if Ukraine pays – 2024-08-20 01:47:48

/ world today news/ Gas supplies to Ukraine will continue on Monday, Gazprom executive director Alexey Miller said, adding that Kiev’s advance payment for this month should be made on Friday.

“We have just concluded an agreement with Naftogaz, Ukraine, whereby the advance payment for October gas supplies will be made today (Friday, October 9). After the transfer is made, at ten o’clock in the morning Moscow time on October 12, Gazprom will start supplying gas to Ukraine,” Miller told reporters on Friday.

He added that Ukraine has requested 2 billion cubic meters of gas for October. Naftogaz will pay 500 million dollars.

Russian gas will be piped into Ukrainian underground storage facilities. Ukraine has already received 15.7 billion cubic meters of gas, but according to experts, at least 19 billion will be needed for the upcoming winter.

Last month, the two sides finally reached an agreement on gas supplies after several months of negotiations. Moscow and Kiev could not find a compromise, with prices being the main stumbling block.

Kiev will pay at a discount – 232 dollars per thousand cubic meters of gas during the period covered by the agreement (October-March). Earlier, Ukraine paid 252 dollars per thousand cubic meters.

The EU has agreed to lend $500 million to Ukraine’s Naftogaz to secure two billion cubic meters worth of stocks for the winter season. But Gazprom warned that gas in Ukraine could run out before the end of winter.
