Russia warn of conflict Ukraine risk of escalating to a third world war. The warning was delivered by Russia in response to a visit by US officials to Ukraine.
As reported by AFP, Tuesday (26/4/2022), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made this statement in response to the United States’ statement that Ukraine can beat Russia. Lavrov said the warning was also part of criticism of Ukraine for trying to derail peace talks.
“The risks of World War III are very serious,” Lavrov said.
“It’s real, you can’t underestimate it,” he continued.
Furthermore, Lavrov called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also “pretend” to negotiate with Russia. He added that Zelensky’s stance was a contradiction.
“You will find a thousand contradictions,” he said.
US believes Ukraine can win the war against Russia
The United States Pentagon believes Ukraine can win the war against Russia. Ukraine just needs confidence and the right equipment to win.
This was conveyed by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. As reported by AFP on Tuesday (26/4), Austin expressed his confidence that Ukraine could win after meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
He originally said the first step Ukraine have to believe that they can win against Russia. That confidence is needed by Ukraine.
“The first step to winning is believing that you can win. So they believe that we can win,” Austin told a group of reporters after he and Blinken met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Then, Austin said that the belief in winning must be supported by the right equipment. For these two things, Austin believes that Ukraine can win against Russia.
“We believe that we can win, they can win, if they have the right equipment, the right support,” he said.
