“What we are seeing right now is that Russia is effectively trying to freeze this war, at least for a short period of time, so that it can regroup, repair, recover and then launch a bigger offensive next spring.” according to a report by Britain’s Financial Times, the head of the alliance said at the event.
NATO members are continuing unprecedented arms deliveries and support to Ukraine despite fears that the conflict is drying up Western arsenals, Stoltenberg said.
“Just as important as the delivery of new systems is ensuring that systems or weapons we have already delivered are functioning and functioning effectively,” said the NATO Secretary General. “That means they need a lot of ammunition, spare parts and also maintenance.”
Stoltenberg said he no longer has information on the attacks on military airfields inside Russia.
As Stoltenberg pointed out, the bottom line is that Ukraine is fighting to defend itself against Moscow, which is bombing civilian infrastructure to keep people cold and without electricity in the winter.
“Ukraine has the right to defend itself against these attacks,” he said.
As the head of the alliance pointed out, at the moment there is no such situation to be able to talk about resolving the conflict peacefully, “because Russia shows no sign of engaging in negotiations in which the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the ‘Ukraine would be respected”.
