“Russia Uses Jamming Techniques to Disrupt US HIMARS Launcher System in Ukraine”

KIEV – Russia have used techniques jamming in recent months which forced the rockets of the United States (US) HIMARS launcher system into operation Ukraine get out of the way.

It was exposed CNN in its report Friday (5/5/2023) citing five US, UK and Ukrainian sources familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the Russian efforts made GPS-guided munitions even less effective.

HIMARS, which can engage targets up to 50 miles (80 km) away, is one of the most advanced weapons systems the US has provided Kiev since Moscow launched its invasion in February 2022.

A Ukrainian drone operator was quoted as describing the attempt to disrupt the work of the HIMARS launcher as a “significant” step, and something he had not seen before last November.

A Pentagon official described the process of finding new ways to combat Russian attempts to send HIMARS rockets off course as a “constant game of cat-and-mouse”.

A senior Pentagon official told CNN that the US has assisted Ukraine to combat intrusion by adapting targeting software and constantly changing it to keep them effective.

The official said the update had been made “as recently as this week”.
