Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
English will send warships to the Black Sea in the midst of feuds between Russia and Ukraine which heats up.
Reported Reuters which cites newspaper reports the Sunday Times, Sunday (18/4), Britain said the warship shipment was a form of solidarity with Ukraine, which is an ally of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
They will send a destroyer type Type 45 warship armed with anti-aircraft missiles and also a Type 23 frigate type ship which has anti-submarine weapons.
The two ships would be dispatched from the British Navy’s aircraft carrier fleet in the Mediterranean and would head straight for the Black Sea via the Bosphorus.
Meanwhile, the British Navy also alerted the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth in the Mediterranean, which was carrying the F-35B stealth fighter jet and the Merlin submarine hunting helicopter.
According to the British Ministry of Defense, they are currently coordinating with the Ukrainian government to monitor developments in the border region, especially in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
“Britain asks all allies to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” said a statement from the British Ministry of Defense.
It is feared that a large-scale war will re-erupt between Ukraine and the separatist rebel groups and the Russian military.
The reason is that Russia continues to strengthen forces in rebel -held areas near the Ukrainian border.
Ukraine feels threatened by the deployment of Russian troops. Meanwhile, Russia argued that they were not at all intimidating by sending troops.
NATO and a number of allies of Ukraine, including the United States to France, have suggested that Russia immediately withdraw their troops and reduce tensions.
On Friday (16/4), French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, expressed support for the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
The two leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states also asked Russia to immediately withdraw troops from the border region.
Meanwhile, on Thursday (15/4), the President of the United States, Joe Biden, imposed financial sanctions on Russia. The US also expelled ten Russian diplomats in retaliation for a series of massive cyber attacks against the US as well as Russian interference in US elections.
Eight people linked to the occupation of Crimea were also sanctioned.
Despite this set of sanctions, Biden remains hopeful of holding a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming months.
