China’s Foreign Ministry did not directly acknowledge the incident. In a regularly scheduled press conference on Tuesday, President Xi Jinping’s government called its borders stable.
“As far as we know, the border area between China and India is generally stable, and the two sides have maintained regular communication on border-related issues through diplomatic and military channels,” spokesman Wang Wenbin said, asking reporters on Thursday. “competent authorities” of “specific thing”.
This is the latest confrontation after brutal hand-to-hand combat that took place in June 2022. The two armies have engaged in hand-to-hand combat in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley, bordering the Chinese-controlled Tibetan Plateau.
At least 20 Indian soldiers were killed. China itself admits that there have been injuries, although it refuses to give exact details.
“Chinese troops hit our male soldier on the head with a metal rod wrapped in barbed wire,” an Indian military official told BBC International at the time.
“Our guys are fighting with bare hands,” he said again.
India and China effectively contested claims to the 3,800 km border area on a line known as the “Line of Effective Control (LAC). War also broke out in 1962.
“The showdown represents a complete breakdown of trust between the two sides,” said Wall Street Journal defense analyst NC Bipindra.
“Peace along the LAC lines is no longer possible until border issues are addressed,” he added.
