NATO Allies Deploy Fighter Jets as Russia Launches Large-Scale Bombardment on West Ukraine
In a swift response too a massive Russian bombardment on West Ukraine,Polish and other NATO combat jets were deployed on Saturday. The escalation comes as Russia intensified its attacks on Ukrainian territory, targeting both military and civilian infrastructure.
The Polish Armed Forces announced the deployment in a statement on X,saying,”Attention, because the Russian federation carried out attacks on facilities which, among others, located in West Ukraine,Polish flight operations and allies in our airspace have begun.” The statement emphasized that all troops and available facilities were activated during the attack, with continuous monitoring of the situation.
Along with the deployment of fighter jets, the Polish military missile defense system was placed on high alert, following standard procedures. This move underscores the heightened tensions in the region as Ukraine faces one of the largest bombardments since the conflict began.
The Ukraine Air Force reported that Russia launched 165 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles during the attack. Despite the scale of the assault, Ukraine’s air defense systems managed to intercept 56 Russian UAVs, showcasing their resilience in the face of relentless aggression. The human cost of the bombardment was devastating. According to the Kyiv Independent,at least seven people were killed and 14 injured in Russian attacks on residential buildings in Poltava. Civil infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, kharkiv, Khmelnytsky, and Kyiv Oblast also suffered notable damage, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
