Russia turns to Su-34 fighter-bombers to stop unexpected Kursk haemorrhage

The Russian Army on Thursday resorted to Su-34 fighter-bomber to strike at the positions of Ukrainian units that crossed the border and entered the Kursk region.

“The crews of the Su-34 multi-purpose supersonic fighter-bombers of the Aerospace Forces carried out air strikes against military equipment of the Ukrainian Army detachments,” said the statement from the Ministry of Defense, as reported by the Efe agency.

The Su-34s used FAB-500 aerial bombs, which Moscow routinely uses to destroy Ukrainian territory, to launch “precise attacks from a safe distance” from the combat zone.

Incursion into RussiaA. CruzThe reason

For its part, the Sever (North) group attacked the positions of six enemy mechanized brigades in Kursk, but also in the neighbouring regions of Kharkiv and Sumy.

In these attacks against Ukrainian positions, kyiv is reported to have suffered 415 casualties, four tanks, thirty armoured vehicles and military vehicles, and two electronic warfare stations.

In addition, the acting governor of Kursk, Alexei Smirnov, assured that Anti-aircraft defenses shot down two Ukrainian missiles over the region.

The Ministry of Defense acknowledged today that it had to repel “attempts by some (Ukrainian) units to penetrate deep into (Russian) territory in the Kursk sector.”

Military bloggers, meanwhile, insist that the enemy has taken control of a border post, where several Russian soldiers were taken prisoner, and is continuing to advance towards several towns in the area.

The gasometer at Sudzha, a tank that measures the flow of gas circulating through Ukrainian territory to European customers, was also seized, although the Gazprom consortium said it was still pumping the fuel through Ukraine.

Smirnov declared a state of emergency in the region on Wednesday, where fighting broke out on Tuesday, to “alleviate the consequences of the incursion by enemy forces,” Efe news agency reported.

Five civilians have been killed and 31 others injured in the attacks, which have not been officially claimed by kyiv, according to the latest figures from the Russian Ministry of Health.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called Ukraine’s biggest incursion into Russian territory since the start of the war a “large-scale provocation.”
