Russians will conduct large-scale exercises in 2022

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will also conduct the strategic exercise Vostok-2022 and command-staff maneuvers of the troops of the Western Military District.

In the west of Russia next year, a command and staff exercise of the two armies is planned, as well as an operational exercise of the Baltic Fleet grouping. This was stated by the commander of the Western Military District (ZVO) Alexander Zhuravlev in an interview with the newspaper of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation a red star, unveiled on Wednesday, December 29th.

“The pinnacle of combat and operational training in 2022 will be a bilateral command-and-staff exercise with the participation of two regional formations and an operational exercise with a grouping of forces of the Baltic Fleet,” Zhuravlev said.

In 2022, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will also conduct a strategic exercise Vostok-2022. In 2018, according to official data, about 300 thousand servicemen were involved in strategic maneuvers Vostok-2018 – almost a third of the Russian army.

Currently, the combat strength of the ZVO includes two combined arms, one tank army, as well as the Leningrad Air Force and Air Defense Army.

As a reminder, in September 2021 Russia and Belarus conducted a strategic exercise West-2021, in which about 200 thousand soldiers were involved. According to experts, these are the most massive maneuvers organized in Europe over the past almost 40 years.
