The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia announced on Thursday that it has thwarted an attack at the Pskov railway station and the neutralization of the members of the terrorist cell that prepared it.
“In the Pskov region (631 km northwest of Moscow, editor’s note), an operation ended the activities of an international terrorist organization prohibited in Russia, whose members, citizens of a country of Central Asia, was preparing an attack,” the FSB said in a statement.
“On the instructions of an emissary of this organization staying abroad, the individuals planned to explode the building of the Pskov railway station. After committing this terrorist attack, they intended to go abroad,” said the same source.
“During the arrest, the terrorists opposed resistance and were eliminated,” added the FSB, noting that in order to prepare their attack, the members of the terrorist cell organized a reconnaissance of the field, acquired some components necessary for the manufacture of improvised explosive objects and started the manufacturing process.”
“During the searches of the homes of the respondents, firearms, ammunition and elements of an artisanal explosive were discovered,” said the FSB.
