Russia Threatens to Attack Western Arms Supplies for Ukraine

Moscow

Russia warned that his army could target weapons supplies from Western countries against Ukraine, where the Russian military invasion has continued since February 24. The Russian warning was specifically aimed at United States of America (US) which is said to have ramped up weapons to Ukraine.

“We warn the United States that the regulated arms promotion of a number of countries is not only a dangerous step, it is a step that turns this convoy into a legitimate target,” Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, as reported by Reuters. AFPSaturday (12/3/2022).

Ryabkov said Russia had warned “about the consequences of transferring weapons to Ukraine such as portable air defense systems, anti-tank missile systems and so on”.

Ryabkov also noted that the US did not take Russia’s warnings seriously. He added that Russia and the US would not hold any ‘negotiation process’ to discuss the current situation in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the dispatch of Russian troops to Ukraine from February 24, in what he described as a “special military operation” which he said was aimed at “denazifying” Ukraine.

Since then, Russia has been hit with international sanctions targeting the Russian economy, finance and energy sector. Not only Putin, his close people as well as ministers and high-ranking Russian officials are also subject to Western sanctions. The Russian oligarchs who are considered to support the Putin regime are also not exempt from sanctions.

Previously, US President Joe Biden in a recent statement reiterated that the US will not send its troops directly to Ukraine. But Biden also stated that the US would ensure Ukraine had the weapons to defend itself against Russian forces.

“But I want to be clear, we will make sure that the Ukrainians have the weapons to defend themselves against the invading Russian forces,” he said CNN.
