LONDON Russia threatened to respond harshly if Britain dared to send fighter jets to Ukraine .

Russia will find a response to any unfriendly steps taken by the British side,” the Russian Embassy in London said in a statement, as quoted The Moscow TimesThursday (9/2/2023).

The Russian embassy said the move by sending the fighter jets would make London bear responsibility for the “bloody harvest” from the next round of escalation. “As well as the resulting military and political consequences for the European continent and the whole world,” the embassy continued.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited London where he urged allies to send warplanes to counter the Russian invasion.

British Prime Minister (PM) Rishi Sunak said there was nothing wrong in terms of military aid for Ukraine.

“Fighter jets for Ukraine are part of the talks,” Sunak said in a joint news conference with Zelensky.

The UK prime minister’s office said Sunak had asked Defense Secretary Ben Wallace to examine what warplanes the UK could supply, but stressed any potential move to do so would not be imminent.

Sunak denied Britain was keeping quiet when asked what was holding it back from sending fighter jets to Ukraine.
