Russia thanks Saudi Arabia for its efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis

In response to the Kingdom’s efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Wednesday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the two ministers discussed priority issues for the gradual development of diversified and mutually beneficial Russian-Saudi cooperation in line with the implementation of agreements previously reached at the highest level.

Gratitude from the Saudi position

The statement added that the Russian side expressed its gratitude to the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its constructive position and readiness to make efforts to find ways to solve the complex problems associated with the Ukrainian crisis.

Particular attention was paid to the continuation of constructive cooperation in the “OPEC +” format.

The two sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in continuing close coordination of foreign policy at the bilateral and international levels.

Saudi mediation

Interestingly, the Kingdom has always emphasized its support for a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.

A few weeks ago, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s mediation efforts managed to conclude a prisoner exchange deal between the Russian and Ukrainian sides, during which 10 foreign prisoners captured in Ukraine were released.

At the time, this step came out of the interests of the Crown Prince, and in continuation of his efforts to take humanitarian action towards the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and thanks to his continued efforts with the countries concerned.

Today, the Saudi news agency reported that Prince Faisal assured Lavrov that the Kingdom continues its efforts among all parties and supports international efforts aimed at resolving the Ukrainian crisis politically.
