MOSCOW, June 29 (Xinhua) — The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday it had summoned Norwegian charge d’affaires Solveig Rossebo over Norway’s decision to block the delivery of goods to Spitsbergen.
Mr Rossebo was informed of the “unacceptable situation around the delivery of cargoes to Spitsbergen blocked by the Norwegian side which were intended for the operations of the Russian state company Arktikugol on the archipelago”, the ministry said in a statement. .
Following the Norwegian restrictions imposed on Russian transport at the Russian-Norwegian border in April, vital goods such as food and medical equipment, necessary for the normal functioning of the company and the Russian Consulate General in Spitsbergen, are blocked, according to the ministry.
Russia asked Norway to “settle the matter as soon as possible”, stressing that such hostile actions would “inevitably lead to appropriate retaliatory measures”. End
