Russia: Strict message from the Kremlin to Trump and Harris after the debate – 2024-09-12 11:48:05

The Kremlin said today that it did not like the way Vladimir Putin’s name was used in the US presidential election telefight between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and called on them to stop involving it in their political battle.

President Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, made the comments a week after the Kremlin chief playfully said he preferred Harris to Trump, leading the White House to say Putin should stop commenting on American elections in November.

Peskov told reporters that the Kremlin did not directly watch last night’s teleconference, but was informed by news sources.

“Of course, we noticed that both candidates mentioned our president, they mentioned our country. Of course, the position is absolutely clear – the United States, as a whole, regardless of the party from which the candidates come, maintains a negative attitude, an unfriendly attitude towards our country,” he said.

“Putin’s name is being used as one of the tools in the domestic political battle in the US. We really don’t like this and hope they leave our president’s name alone.”
