They noted that the Bulgarian side fully fulfilled its obligations and made all payments under the current contract in a timely manner and strictly in accordance with its provisions.
“After an analysis was carried out by the state enterprise Bulgargaz and the Bulgarian Energy Holding, it was found that the Russian side’s proposal for a new two-stage payment procedure does not comply with the current agreement and has significant risks for the Bulgarian side, including making payment without receiving delivery gas from Russia,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Energy, the Bulgarian Energy Holding, Bulgargaz and Bulgartransgaz took steps to conclude alternative contracts for gas supplies and resolve the current situation. At the moment, no restrictive measures on consumption are being introduced in Bulgaria, the ministry said.
Tomorrow Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov will make a statement on the situation.
