Russia spends up to a third of oil and gas export revenues on war, but embargo won’t stop it – economist

Even if a full oil and gas embargo is introduced, the Kremlin will have enough to finance the war in Ukraine for another 1.5-2 years.

Russia spends on the war with Ukraine up to a third of the income from energy trade. However, even without them, Putin has the resources to continue the war for another 1.5-2 years.

This was told by the Russian economist and sociologist Vladislav Inozemtsev, reports Today.

According to him, approximately over $10 billion received from energy exports was directed to military spending by the Russian Defense Ministry.

While the average income during the month from Russian exports, mainly consisting of energy products, is about 35 billion dollars.

“That is, Russia spends on the war about a third, maybe a quarter of what it receives from exports,” the economist said.

Foreigners explained that 10 billion per month is about 5-6% of GDP per year.

“Increasing the public debt by 6-7% of GDP is not a problem. Therefore, even if all export earnings are blocked, the war can continue without any problems for another 1.5-2 years,” he said.

Previously it was reported that Russia earns more from oil and gas exportsthan before the war with Ukraine.
