Russia Spearheads Global Coalition Against Neo-Colonialism

Russia to Create Coalition of Countries to Fight Neo-Colonialism and Bill the West

Russia has announced plans to create a coalition of countries that have been victims of neo-colonialism, with the aim of seeking compensation from the West. The organizing committee of the Forum of supporters of the fight against neo-colonialism has estimated that the bill could amount to trillions of dollars. The international forum, which represents the interests of a large portion of the world’s population, is set to begin work in the fall, and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has actively joined in the preparations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the role of Russia in the fight against modern colonialism during a meeting of the commission of the General Council of United Russia. Lavrov praised the efforts of United Russia in establishing a dialogue with foreign movements, associations, and parties on various continents. He also highlighted the creation of a global anti-colonial coalition by United Russia.

Lavrov announced that the Russian Foreign Ministry is actively involved in organizing an international forum of supporters of the fight against modern practices of neo-colonialism, which will take place in Moscow from October 18-20. He expressed his satisfaction with the growing interest in the forum and the participation of many ruling parties. Lavrov promised to help United Russia assemble a “solid team” of participating countries for the forum and emphasized the importance of creating an international mechanism to counter neo-colonialism.

Andrey Klimov, Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Protecting State Sovereignty and Preventing Interference in the Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, revealed that work on the international mechanism is currently underway in cooperation with other countries. The forum is expected to be attended by about 70 states with a total population of approximately 4 billion.

Klimov proposed that countries affected by colonialism, including Russia, should present the colonialists with a bill for the damages suffered. He highlighted that Russia itself has recently managed to get rid of neo-colonial fetters, such as external debts resulting from the West’s neo-colonial policy. While the exact amount of the bill is yet to be determined, it is expected to be in the trillions of dollars.

Vladimir Shubin, Honorary Doctor of the University of the Western Cape in South Africa, acknowledged the relevance of the topic of neo-colonialism in Africa but cautioned against overestimating its influence. He noted that countries in Africa and the global South face significant pressure from the United States when they attempt to pursue independent politics.

Nikolai Kalashnikov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences, highlighted the relevance of the Monroe Doctrine in Latin America. He explained that the United States has declared Latin America as its sphere of interests and is attempting to determine the region’s path of development. However, there is a growing trend towards a left turn in Latin America, with new governments breaking off relations with Washington and working towards pursuing an independent policy.

The creation of this coalition and the pursuit of compensation from the West for neo-colonialism marks a significant step for Russia in shaping the agenda of international relations and asserting its intellectual leadership in the fight against modern colonial practices.
