The Russian government has slammed new sanctions against Russia recently adopted by the United States and the European Union.

According to Reuters, on the 27th (local time), Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the EU’s tenth package of sanctions against Russia, approved on the 24th, was absurd.

He called the list of individuals and entities on the sanctions list “illogical” and said, “We are talking about such outstanding people and we will not inconvenience them by being included on the sanctions list.”

The EU’s new sanctions target 120 individuals and institutions. Specifically, Iranians who supplied unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to Russia were put on the sanction list, along with individuals involved in kidnapping Ukrainian children or disseminating false information.

It also banned transactions with 96 entities, including three additional Russian banks and seven Iranian entities that provide military drones to Russia.

In addition, exports of electronic components used in Russian weapons such as missiles, drones, and helicopters were restricted, and exports of some rare earth minerals, electronic circuits, and thermal imaging cameras to Russia were restricted.

Separately, the Russian Foreign Ministry criticized the new sanctions against Russia that the US announced prior to the G7 video conference on the 24th.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned it as “a futile and reckless attempt to undermine our industrial and financial potential and cut Russia off from international economic relations.”

The US plans to impose a 200% tariff on aluminum and derivatives produced in Russia from the 10th of next month. In addition, from April 10, a 200% tariff will be applied on aluminum imports regardless of the amount of primary aluminum smelted or cast in Russia.

In addition, the US Commerce Department plans to impose export controls on 90 Russian and third-country companies involved in sanctions evasion to support Russia’s defense sector. Accordingly, target companies cannot purchase semiconductors manufactured in the US or semiconductors manufactured overseas with US technology or software.
