Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Ministry of Defence Russia signed a new contract with Akhmat’s group of Chechen special forces, to replace mercenaries Wagner Group Of Ukraine.
The move comes a day after Wagner Group mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin refused to renew his contract with the Kremlin.
The latest contract with Akhmat Troops follows an order that all “volunteer units” must sign a contract by July 1, to come under the control of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
In return, mercenaries receive the same benefits and protection as regular troops, including support for families if they are injured or killed.
Wagner boss Prigozhin last weekend refused to sign such a contract. He has also declared a feud with Russia’s Ministry of Defense and accused the Kremlin of failing to supply adequate ammunition to Wagner’s mercenaries in Ukraine.
Prigozhin also accused Shoigu of “not properly managing military formations.”
The contract signed by the Russian Ministry of Defense was carried out with Akhmat’s paramilitary force, which is often called the private army of Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Chechen region.
Unlike Prigozhin, Kadyrov has recently chosen to refrain from criticizing the Russian Defense Ministry.
Commander Akhmat, Apty Alaudinov, who took part in signing the contract, said the unit is ready to send tens of thousands of volunteers to Ukraine.
“I think this is a very good thing,” said Alaudinov, after signing for Russia.
Meanwhile the deputy chief of the Russian general staff, Colonel General Alexei Kim said after signing the agreement with the Chechens, he hoped other volunteer units would follow suit.
