For the first time in St. Petersburg, 3 nuclear submarines parade together
54 ships, including for the first time three nuclear submarines, took part in the sixth consecutive parade on Navy Day in St. Petersburg on Sunday, world agencies reported. According to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, he is the biggest in history so far. This year marks the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Navy by Tsar Peter the Great.
The parade was also attended by 48 planes and helicopters, visiting frigates from Iran, Pakistan and India, and more than 4,000 military personnel. Especially big attraction were the sailing vessels. The parade began with a cannon salute from the Peter and Paul Fortress.
In honor of the holiday, sailors raised the St. George’s flag on the battleship “Azov”. The boat (small sailing and rowing ship) of Peter the Great also paraded in the parade,
also known as
“Grandpa’s
the Russian fleet “,
whose crew wore uniforms from the time. On this ship, the future Russian emperor began to learn the intricacies of maritime affairs, notes TASS.
“Russia is constantly and successfully improving the armament of its navy and
is able to
find any
opponent and if
had to, yes
inflict it
an irreversible blow “,
said President Vladimir Putin before the celebrations, TASS reported.
“Russia has quickly taken its rightful place among the leading maritime powers, has come a long way from the humble boat of Peter the Great to powerful ocean-going ships and nuclear missile submarines.
“It has acquired efficient long-range and short-range naval aviation, reliable coast guard systems, the latest hypersonic precision weapons systems that have no analogue in the world and which we are constantly improving,” said the Russian head of state. Apparently he was referring to the Zircon hypersonic rocket, which is in the final stages of testing and which flies between 7 and 9 times faster than the speed of sound. Zircon will be commissioned in 2022.
Among the new weapons on display on Sunday was the Kazan multi-role nuclear submarine, the first under the new Yasen-M project, and the Kryaz Vladimir missile submarine strategic cruiser from the Borey-A project.
Naval parades in honor of Fleet Day were also held in Sevastopol (Black Sea Fleet), North Sea (Northern Fleet), Baltic (Baltic Fleet), Vladivostok (Pacific Fleet), Caspian (Caspian Flotilla). In Baltiysk, ships marched to the sounds of Strauss’s waltzes, and the parade demonstrated the capture of saboteurs by Coast Guard boats.
Despite the sanitary measures due to the coronavirus and the order of the local government to pass the holiday without an audience, thousands of St. Petersburg residents flocked to the banks of the Neva to watch the spectacle. The parade was also broadcast on huge screens in Senate Square and Kronstadt.
Putin also said that thanks to its modern navy, Russia is present in all parts of the world.
One of the big ones
problems remain
the presence of
one and only
aircraft carrier
On top of that, Admiral Kuznetsov has been undergoing repairs for months, which should be completed next year, but it is possible that it will last until 2023. According to the military, Russia needs three new aircraft carriers.
Between 1939 and 1980, the Navy Day was celebrated on July 24. Subsequently, it was decided to do so on the last Sunday of July.
