Moscow. Russian air defense forces shot down a Ukrainian aircraft-type drone over the border province of Belgorod, the Russian Defense Ministry reported this Friday.
“On April 19, around 6:50 p.m. Moscow time (3:50 p.m. GMT), an attempt by the Kiev regime to launch a terrorist attack against facilities on Russian territory was thwarted,” the note stated.
According to the Russian military entity, the Ukrainian drone was shot down by the anti-aircraft defense over the territory of the Belgorod province.
Russia has continued a special military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022, whose objectives, according to its president, Vladimir Putin, are to protect the population from “a genocide by the Kiev regime” and to address the national security risks that represents NATO’s advance eastward.
Russian provinces bordering Ukraine, such as Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Voronezh, regularly report shell hits, drone incursions and other attacks from across the border, forcing the population to seek refuge elsewhere.
Belgorod province has been the most affected, with several incursions by sabotage groups from Ukraine in recent months and continuous attacks on border municipalities with the use of multiple rocket launchers, mortars and drones.
