Speaking on Wednesday in an exclusive interview with Russia Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow did not want to choose the path of confrontation, referring to tensions with Kiev.
He warned “hot heads” in Ukraine against military confrontation and said Russia would respond to any provocation.
“The choice is up to our partners,” Lavrov said.

“The fact that the US authorities have been quite prompt in arranging future contacts, I believe, is a positive sign, despite the substantial work ahead.”
Lavrov added that Russian President Vladimir Putin previously said Russia has all the capabilities to ensure a full military and technical response to any kind of provocation that may occur.
Russia’s top diplomat’s remarks come amid rising tensions in eastern Ukraine, with Western officials and news outlets alleging that Russia is building up troops near the demarcation line as a possible prelude to launching a full-scale invasion of its neighbour.
The Kremlin has consistently denied the accusations, arguing that they are unfounded and merely describe the “hysteria” that has emerged in the media.
