Russia reports largest Ukrainian drone attack since war began

Ukrainian drones have attacked targets in six different regions of Russia overnight to Wednesday, according to the Russian defense.

The news agency AP writes that it is the largest Ukrainian drone attack since Russia’s full-scale invasion of the neighboring country a year and a half ago.

The drone attacks have, among other things, targeted an airport in the Pskov region in western Russia. A large fire broke out there, according to the governor and local media. Four II-76 military transport aircraft were damaged, according to the Russian news agency Tass.

All air traffic to and from the airport is canceled on Thursday, so that the damage can be assessed in daylight.

The Kremlin further claims to have shot down drones over the regions of Oryol, Bryansk, Ryazan, Kaluga and Moscow. Ukrainian authorities do not usually claim responsibility for attacks on Russian soil, and they have not commented on the latest attacks.

Russian-appointed authorities on the occupied Crimean peninsula report on Wednesday morning that they have fought back a drone attack against the port of Sevastopol. They say it is unclear how many drones are involved, and whether they have caused damage.

Drone strikes against Crimea and Russian regions have become more and more common in recent months, with Moscow and border regions such as Bryansk among the most common targets. Fuel depots and airports have been hit by attacks Russian authorities say Ukraine is behind.
