Russia reports a record number of coronavirus deaths for the fourth day in a row

There were 24,522 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Russia per day, the highest daily increase since July 22, Interfax noted. There were 3,993 infected people in Moscow and 2,281 in St. Petersburg. These two cities also had the most deaths: 64 in Moscow and 55 in St. Petersburg.

In a country with a population of approximately 146 million, more than 7.5 million people have become infected since the beginning of the pandemic, of whom 208 142 have been infected, according to government staff.

However, a much higher number of pandemic victims are reported by the Russian statistical office. According to him, 365 thousand people died in connection with coronavirus from last April to July this year. The government explains this discrepancy by the fact that statistics also include the dead in their numbers, for whom the infection was discovered only after death.
