On August 25, the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Convention will be celebrated in Geneva, Switzerland. Russia was also offered to participate in the event.

However, the Russian Federation rejected the proposal received from the Swiss Foreign Ministry. This statement was made by the head of the communication department of the diplomatic department. Nicolas Bidot.

According to RIA Novosti, the trip was supposed to have an unofficial status. Countries that were members of the UN Security Council were invited to participate in events celebrating the anniversary, but only the Russian Federation refused.

“The invitation to the missions was sent to the UN Security Council in New York. The Russian mission has announced at the moment that it will not go to Geneva, the remaining 14 are expected,” explained Bidot.

The Geneva Convention includes 4 international treaties and 3 additional protocols. They prove that war must be fought in humane ways. Standards were developed for the wounded, prisoners of war and civilians. The document was adopted in 1949.
