Moscow stressed the constitutionality of the electoral process while denouncing an attempt to destabilize Venezuela promoted by the United States.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a press conference on Monday that the recent presidential elections in Venezuela took place legally and within the constitutional framework, ensuring public order.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that the situation in Venezuela, according to objective data, remains stable and that the post-election process is progressing within the legal framework, with the Bolivarian authorities guaranteeing constitutional and public order.
However, he warned of an intensification of coordinated pressure from abroad to delegitimize the election results.
Zakharova stressed that Western discontent with the election results in Venezuela is not new and compared the situation to other similar external interventions in the past, mentioning “color revolutions” in the post-Soviet space, such as in Ukraine in 2004, and failed efforts to install a “parallel government” in Venezuela under Juan Guaidó.
The spokesperson also criticized the “Declaration of Santo Domingo” and the recent resolution of the Organization of American States (OAS), promoted by the United States, which, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, are used to divide Venezuela and encourage disobedience within the country’s armed forces.
Along these lines, Zakharova accused the United States of inciting destabilization and creating controlled chaos in Venezuela.
He also insisted that external forces trying to impose their will on a sovereign state like Venezuela must understand the serious consequences of their actions. He also stressed that the Inter-American Democratic Charter does not include provisions that allow for the “independent verification” of a country’s election results at the whim of external actors.
As part of her speech, the spokesperson noted that Russia reaffirms its support for Venezuela, praising the will of the Venezuelan people to defend their sovereignty and the readiness of the authorities to continue dialogue with political forces interested in resolving disagreements within the legal framework.
He concluded by pointing out Russia’s solidarity with Venezuela and its commitment to stability in the region.
The Russian diplomat’s position is in line with statements made by the spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, who called on the international community to respect the election results in Venezuela.
Lin stressed the sovereign right of the Venezuelan people to determine their own development path, supporting the validation of the results by the Venezuelan Supreme Court.
Chinese President Xi Jinping also previously expressed support for Nicolas Maduro following his election victory, praising the achievements in national construction under his leadership. Xi reaffirmed bilateral cooperation and China’s commitment to Venezuela’s sovereignty and stability in the face of external interference.
The joint position of Russia and China highlights their support for Venezuela’s national sovereignty and their call on the international community to respect the electoral processes of the South American country.
