Russia’s foreign ministry said it had missed another opportunity to find a way out of the stalemate in US-Russia relations.
“The responsibility for this lies entirely with the United States,” the ministry said.
Russia’s relations with the West have already reportedly plummeted last week when Biden, in an interview with ABC, answered in the affirmative the journalist’s question about whether he considered the Russian president a murderer, and said that he thought Putin had no soul.
In response to Biden’s remarks, Russia urgently referred to its ambassador to Washington for consultations, and Putin said he “knows him.”
“We always see the other person in our own quality and think the other is the same as us,” Putin said on television.
Putin later announced that he would instruct the Foreign Ministry to start preparing virtual talks with Biden, saying that talks could take place as early as Friday or Monday.
“We could talk about bilateral relations, and be careful about this strategic stability and about resolving regional conflicts. I will not list many of them. And about the problems facing humanity today, including the fight against the pandemic,” Putin said.
Biden told reporters on Friday that he would talk to Putin at some point, but did not say exactly when that might happen.
