Moscow, Jun 9 (EFE) .- Coronavirus infections in Russia maintain a sustained upward trend for more than a week and today reached the figure of 10,407 positives, which exceeded the level of March 7.
“During the last day in Russia, 10,407 cases of coronavirus were detected in 84 Russian regions, of which 1,682 (16.2%) did not present clinical symptoms,” reported the Russian health authorities.
In the last 24 hours in the country, 399 patients died, bringing the number of fatalities from the coronavirus to 124,895.
In total, during the entire pandemic in Russia 5,156,250 cases of covid-19 have been diagnosed.
Moscow, the main focus of the disease in the country, reported 4,124 new infections, returning to the maximum detected in mid-January.
Immunologist Vladislav Zhémchugov, a specialist in highly contagious diseases, told RIA Novosti that this is a “temporary” growth due to non-compliance with health standards by the population.
“People have relaxed and in fact have stopped using masks,” he said, noting that in the capital’s subway, which is approached daily by tens of millions of passengers, “practically no one uses them.”
In addition, he indicated that the number of people who are not immunized is still high.
Despite the fact that the vaccination campaign in Russia began in December 2020, the Russian population is reluctant to be immunized.
Last May, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobianin admitted that the Russian capital is the European city with the fewest vaccinated people in proportion to its population, and urged Muscovites to go to vaccination centers.
The Russian authorities have reiterated that inoculation must be absolutely voluntary, but they insist on the need to put aside prejudices and fears and be immunized.
According to Zhémchugov, “the important thing now is to prevent the number of deaths from growing due to the lack of hospital beds. It is necessary to achieve everything for everyone: order the hospitalization and treatment system, which must be precise and targeted.”
