Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the Pacific Fleet had entered the highest level of combat readiness from 3:00 pm on the 14th.
Shoigu said the main purpose of the surprise combat readiness check was to strengthen the military’s ability to repel expected enemy attacks from the maritime side.
This combat readiness check will be conducted in three stages, starting with the first stage of complete combat readiness, deployment of troops in the combat training mission area, and actual combat training.
It is commanded by the Chief of the Russian Navy, Nikolai Yevmenov.
Russia’s Pacific Fleet will conduct torpedo and missile launches to repel large-scale missile and air strikes, detect and destroy submarines, and repel attacks on potential adversary land facilities and seas.
Strategic bombers capable of loading nuclear weapons and fighters from units other than the Pacific Fleet will also be mobilized during the exercise.
In addition, the strategic submarine’s combat stability and weapon readiness are inspected.
In particular, the Pacific Fleet will also hold drills to repel enemy landings at the southern tip of the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin Island, which are subject to territorial disputes with Japan.

Russia has strengthened its military presence in the southern part of the Kuril Islands by deploying advanced fighter jets, anti-ship missiles and anti-aircraft defense systems in recent years to strengthen its effective control over the southern part of the Kuril Islands.
The Russian Pacific Fleet held a drill to repel an imaginary enemy submarine in the East Sea near Primorsky Krai on the 10th.
In addition, in the East Sea several times last month, we mobilized submarines to conduct exercises such as launching caliber cruise missiles.
This exercise by the Russian Pacific Fleet is drawing attention as it was conducted immediately after North Korea’s test-launch of a solid-propelled intercontinental ballistic missile on the 13th and the deployment of the US strategic bomber B-52 to the Korean Peninsula on the 14th in response.
