Moscow, Feb 13 (Sputnik) .- The blocking of the Twitter account of the Russian delegation in the consultations on military security and arms control in Vienna is an act of censorship, the head of that team, Konstantín Gavrílov, denounced this Saturday.
On Friday, the US social network blocked the account of the Russian delegation, alleging alleged violations of the platform’s rules.
“Blocking official accounts that present the official position of principles of one or another country is an obvious censorship,” Gavrílov wrote on his personal Twitter account.
The senior official did not rule out that the pretext of the social network could be the alternative position of Russia about the current political situation in Europe expressed in a recent seminar of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on military doctrine.
In this context, Gavrílov advanced to Sputnik that he will appeal to the Secretary General of the OSCE, Helga Maria Schmid, for Twitter to give explanations.
“We will go to the OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid, we will force them (Twitter) to speak, they will pressure them,” he said.
The diplomat emphasized that Twitter blocked the delegation’s account for tweets about NATO and military doctrines.
For her part, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, María Zajárova, reported that Moscow has already sent a request to the US company in this regard.
“Let’s hope it was a purely technical problem,” Zajárova told Sputnik.
This week, Russia’s Defense Ministry decided not to attend the OSCE seminar for the first time in 30 years due to Western military maneuvers taking place near the country’s borders and which it considers hostile.
The delegation led by Gavrílov represented Russia at that event, who intervened with a harsh message at the closing session. (Sputnik)
