Germany is hindering efforts to uncover the truth about what happened to Navalny, the ministry said. It refers to requests from Russia for legal assistance that were reportedly never answered by Germany. German doctors also rejected their Russian colleagues’ proposal to cooperate on the case, Moscow claims.
According to the ministry, there is an “anti-Russian hysteria” in the West that led to the conclusion that Navalny was poisoned with a novichok nerve poison. The message comes two days after Navalny was released from hospital in Berlin, after 32 days of treatment for severe poisoning. Laboratories in Germany, France and Sweden concluded that Navalny was poisoned with a chemical weapon from the Novichok group. That nerve poison was secretly developed in the former Soviet Union.
Due to the nature of the poisoning, the European Union suspects that it was orchestrated by the Russian authorities. The Kremlin has consistently denied its involvement. Opponent Navalny had become very ill on board a Russian domestic flight last month. He first ended up in a hospital in Siberia and was later transferred to Germany.
