US analysts: Russia prefers psychological terror in its attacks on Ukraine

Electricity and water supply were cut off in some places

From the very early hours of the morning, reports were received from Ukraine of another suicide attack with missiles and drones, this time directed against Ukrainian energy infrastructures.

After one of these strikes near the capital Kiev, the supply of electricity and water to the left bank of the city was temporarily cut off.

Local media report that many people queue long to replenish their drinking water supplies as much as possible.

Explosions were also heard this morning in Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro and the Zhytomyr region. As stated by the head of the military administration of the Zhytomyr region, Vitaly Bunechko, the connection to the emergency networks is in progress.

“At 8:40 this morning, the enemy fired on the energy infrastructure of the Zhytomyr region. 11 settlements were left without electricity. Currently, our energy emergency teams are actively working to connect the electricity grids to the energy sources. At the same time, we can establish that there were no human casualties in the attacks. “

Russia is trying to intimidate the Ukrainians

On Monday evening, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in his speech that the only way to force Russia to engage in peace talks is to eliminate its terrorist capabilities. Also this morning, after the latest strikes, Zelensky said that terror and the killing of civilians will not change the situation of the Russian forces on the battlefield.

Experts from the American think tank Institute of War Research believe that the Russian military currently prefers not success on the battlefield, but psychological terror.

This is evidenced by the bombing of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure far from the front line.

At the same time, the institute predicts that growing anxieties and hesitations can be felt inside Russia, where representatives of various minorities increasingly express their dissatisfaction with the weight they have to carry on their shoulders, realizing the ambitions of the representatives of the Kremlin.

Russia kidnapped employees of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

As for Ukraine’s energy stability, the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP), which has been under the control of Russian forces for months, cannot be ruled out. As announced Tuesday by representatives of the company “Enerhoatom”, Russian forces have kidnapped and taken an unknown direction Oleg Kostyukov, the head of information technology at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, and Oleg Oshek, the station’s deputy general manager.

“Enerhoatom” appealed to the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafaela Grossi, asking to do everything possible to obtain the release of these people.

Grossi’s efforts to create a demilitarized zone around the nuclear power plant have not brought results, at least for now, and he admitted that this is unlikely to be achieved this year.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Russian delegation to the UN General Assembly said that the Russian side will not allow the demilitarization of the nuclear power plant, as it would create new threats of terrorist acts and could encourage a counterattack by the Ukrainian armed forces.

CONTEXT:

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to start invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine. Putin said NATO would use Ukraine as a stepping stone for aggression against Russia, although there was no evidence for these claims.

Ukraine believes that Putin’s real goal is to destroy Ukraine’s statehood and bring the territory under the control of Moscow.

In early autumn, in Ukraine’s counterattack freed by the occupants more territory than Russia had managed to capture since early April.

On October 10, Russia with missiles carried out massive attacks Ukrainian cities by bombing civil infrastructure and urban residential areas. At least 19 people were killed in the attacks, more than 100 were injured.
