MOSCOW – The Lefortovo court in Moscow found Alekseij Navalny, the leader of the Russian opposition for over a year in prison, guilty of “large-scale fraud” and “contempt of court”. The news agency Interfax reports. Navalny will have to serve nine years in a maximum security cell.
The guilty verdict thus cleared the way for a new hefty prison sentence for Vladimir Putin’s main opponent, against the backdrop of a growing campaign of repression in Russia.
