Russia lost its first Tu-22M3 since the beginning of the war. Fallen in Stavropol Krai

Russia’s war with Ukraine. Day 785

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Prime Minister of the Netherlands offers to purchase Patriot kits from countries that have them and deliver them to Ukraine.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a Tu-22M3 bomber of the Russian Aerospace Forces crashed in the territory of Stavropol Krai while “returning to the airport after completing a combat mission.”

According to preliminary data presented by the Russians, the cause of the disaster was a “technical failure”. There was to be no ammunition on board the plane, and no serious damage was reported on the ground. Governor of the Stavropol Krai Vladimir Vladimirov reported that the plane crashed in the Krasnogvardei region.

According to official information, the two pilots of the crashed plane, who managed to catapult, were found alive and taken to hospital. At least one other pilot managed to leave the falling machine, but – as Vladimirov said – he did not survive the crash. “The lives of the two pilots treated by doctors are not in danger. Doctors are doing everything necessary, the patients will soon be transferred to a military hospital located outside our region,” he wrote. The fate of the fourth crew member is unknown – the search for him continues.
