President Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskycut off diplomatic relations with Russia and condemned the attacks by Europe’s largest country.
Zelensky announced the severance of diplomatic ties with Moscow after neighboring countries launched air and missile strikes and sent troops across the border.
In a statement quoted by the AP, Zelensky also likened Russia’s behavior to Germany’s during World War II.
“We cut diplomatic ties with Russia. Ukraine is defending itself and will not give up its freedoms, no matter what Moscow thinks,” Zelensky said.
“Russia viciously attacked our country this morning. Just as fascist Germany did in the Second World War,” he continued.
Zelensky declared his country was in martial law after the Russian attack on Thursday (24/2) morning.
The figure who has an artist background has also asked for help from leaders of countries in the world, such as the US, UK, Poland, and Lithuania to protect their country from Russian invasion.
“We have started an anti-Putin coalition. I have urged global leaders to punish Putin with all possible sanctions, offer large-scale defense support and close the airspace over Ukraine to aggressors,” Zelensky said.
“Together we must save Ukraine, save the world of democracy, and we will,” he concluded.
