Russia Launches Waves of Drones and Missiles Against Ukrainian City of Odesa

The next day, the large building was left charred and mangled. Two employees of the supermarket were hospitalized due to the incident.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited troops at brigade headquarters in the eastern Ukrainian frontline region of Donetsk. His visit focused on brigades involved in attacks on the section of the frontline facing Soledar, a Russian-held town north of Bakhmut.

In another development, US ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy met with jailed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich. Tracy’s visit marked the third time she has met with Gershkovich since his detention in March on espionage charges that he denies. Tracy stated that Gershkovich appears to be in good health and remains strong despite his circumstances. The US expects Moscow to provide continued consular access to Gershkovich. Russia has alleged that Gershkovich was caught trying to obtain military secrets during a trip to the Russian city of Ekaterinburg, but no supporting details have been provided. The Wall Street Journal also denies the allegations.

In a show of support, the United States announced that it will send Ukraine new security assistance valued at $200 million. This assistance includes air defense munitions, artillery rounds, additional mine-clearing equipment, and anti-armour capabilities. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine in its defense efforts. This announcement comes after it was revealed that Washington would distribute $6.2 billion of funds discovered after a Pentagon accounting error that overvalued billions of dollars of Ukraine aid.

In a separate incident, the Dutch defense ministry scrambled two F-16s when two Russian bombers were tracked flying toward Dutch airspace during Russia’s overnight attacks against Odesa, Ukraine.

Furthermore, Britain reported that its Typhoon fighter jets intercepted two Russian maritime patrol bomber aircraft in international airspace north of Scotland. This interception occurred within NATO’s northern air policing area.

Tensions between Russia and Moldova have escalated, leading to the departure of 22 Russian diplomats from the Moldovan capital of Chisinau. This move follows Moldova’s order for Moscow to withdraw most of its delegation last month. Russia’s foreign ministry condemned the “unfriendly step” taken by Moldova and warned of consequences for Russian-Moldovan relations.
