Russia launches new missile and drone attack on Ukraine

Kiev. Russia carried out a massive airstrike on Ukraine on Thursday, its third in four days, firing missiles and dozens of drones, most of which were intercepted, Ukraine’s Air Force said.

Russian forces fired five missiles and 74 Shahed drones at Ukrainian targets, the Kiev air force said in a statement. Anti-aircraft defenses shot down two missiles and 60 aircraft, and another 14 drones were believed to have fallen before reaching their target, it added.

In the capital kyiv, authorities said debris from the neutralized drones fell in three districts and caused minor damage to civilian infrastructure but no injuries.

The Kremlin’s relentless long-range attacks on civilian areas have been a characteristic feature of the war that began after Russian troops entered the neighboring country in February 2022.

Ukrainian officials are increasingly insisting that Western nations backing their war effort should remove restrictions on the targets kyiv can attack on Russian soil with the weapons they provide.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has renewed his call to allies to give him freedom in deciding what to attack in rival territory.
