According to information cited by Reuters, Russia launched a missile attack today against a complex of buildings in the city of Kremenchuk, located in central Ukraine. This attack follows a year later the deadly attack on a shopping mall in the same city.
Dmytro Lunin, regional governor of Poltava Oblast, of which Kremenchuk is a part, confirmed that a villa complex was struck in today’s attack. No casualties reported. Last year, in the attack on Kremenchuk, Ukrainian authorities reported 18 deaths at the Amstor shopping center on June 27, 2022.
So far, there is no Russian comment on this attack. The city of Kremenchuk, which has an oil refinery, has been a frequent target of Russian forces since the start of their invasion of Ukraine last year. Ukrainian representatives reported that the refinery was no longer operational.
Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, described today’s attack as an attempt to distract the Russian public from the events of the weekend related to the actions of the Wagner private military group. Andriy Yermak, head of Zelensky’s office, also condemned the attack, calling it the work of “crazy non-humans and criminals who will definitely be held responsible for everything,” BTA reported.
