Russia launches military maneuvers near Ukraine / Article

Russia’s defense ministry says the maneuvers in the Rostov and Krasnodar regions and the Crimea will involve about 6,000 troops and involve at least 60 fighter jets.

Units will conduct a variety of exercises, including support for comprehensive tactical maneuvers. Combat shooting training for the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Fleet is also planned, as well as aerial training for fighter jets and bombers.

Russian media say Russia is continuing to move troops and military equipment to Belarus, and paratroopers and modern Su-35 fighter jets have been sent to a neighboring country.

The joint exercises of the two countries’ armies will take place from February 10 to 20. The official Moscow emphasizes that the maneuvers are only of a defensive nature and denies planning an attack, but Ukraine and the West are worried about possible aggression.
