On the 29th (local time), three days after the Ukrainian military attacked and destroyed the large amphibious ship Novocherkassk anchored in the port of Feodosia on the Russian-occupied Crimea Peninsula, the Russian military launched its largest deployment across Ukraine in months. A large-scale airstrike resulted in about 100 casualties. There are predictions that Russia, which was hit by Ukraine’s counterattack, will launch a counterattack.

According to Reuters, Russian artillery shelling was carried out on Ukraine’s capital Kiev, Kharkiv, Odessa, and Dnipro on this day. According to authorities, the attack left at least 18 people dead and dozens injured. As the death toll continues to increase by region, the number is likely to increase further. The number of injured exceeded 100.

Ukrainian authorities determined that 122 Russian missiles and 36 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) were launched on this day alone. Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Olashchuk said in a Telegram post that this airstrike was the largest since Russia invaded in February last year. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the previous largest airstrike was in November 2022, when Russia launched 96 missiles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media X (X), “The Russian military used ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. “Russia has mobilized almost every type of weapon in its arsenal,” he wrote.

Damage to social infrastructure also continued. A subway station in Kiev, which was used as a bomb shelter, collapsed after being hit by a missile, and a hospital and residential buildings in Kharkiv were damaged. In four regions, including the North and South, energy infrastructure was damaged and large-scale power outages occurred. Prime Minister Denis Schmyhal raised his voice in criticism, saying, “The enemies (Russia) targeted socially important infrastructure.”
