Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the constant efforts by NATO to pull these countries into the orbit of its interests and opportunistic policies did not go unnoticed by Russia.
“It is quite clear that Finland and Sweden joining NATO will have serious military and political consequences that require an adequate response on the part of Russia,” Zakharova warned.
“The policy of not being part of any alliance, traditionally pursued by Stockholm and Helsinki, is seen by Moscow as an important factor in ensuring stability in northern Europe,” Zakharova added. Russia Today, Sunday (12/26/2021).

NATO has expressed satisfaction with what it says is deepening cooperation with Finland and Sweden, which “share” the bloc’s values and contribute to its operations.
At a summit in June, the US-led military alliance pledged to further enhance the relationship to support shared security, including with crisis management preparations, exercises, and the exchange of information and analysis.
The same statement was repeated during NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s visit to Stockholm and Helsinki in late October.
Earlier this month, Moscow issued two documents – one addressed to NATO and the other to Washington – demanding guarantees that would ensure security for all parties.
