The Russian president Vladimir Putin He said his country is ready for a nuclear war. «From a military-technical point of view, of course we are prepared»he said in a television interview.
The president clarified that, in his opinion, a nuclear conflict is unlikely. “(In USA) there are many experts in the field of strategic moderation,” he assured. “Therefore, I don’t think we will get there (to a nuclear confrontation), but we are ready.”
The interview comes a day after a series of attacks by the Ukrainian army, which launched an offensive with drones against different Russian regions. Putin believes that kyiv is compensating for its lack of progress on the military front in its war against Russia. The president also assured that Ukraine seeks to interfere with the presidential election process that Moscow will celebrate in the coming days.
«The main objective, I have no doubt, is, if not to disrupt the presidential elections in Russia, then at least to interfere in some way in the normal process of expression of the will of the citizens».
Putin has been president or prime minister of Russia since 1999. Election processes in Russia have drawn criticism from the international community for undemocratic practices such as the disqualification of political opponents, the repression of protesters and the use of disinformation campaigns.
