Lavrov warned about the preparation of restrictions on entry into the territory of Russia

Such a step will expand the “toolkit of influence” on several categories of foreign citizens, the Russian minister believes.

The Russian authorities are preparing measures to restrict the entry of citizens from countries carrying out “unfriendly actions” against the Russian Federation. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, reports Interfax on Monday, March 28th.

“In addition, a draft decree is currently being developed on retaliatory visa measures in connection with the unfriendly actions of a number of foreign states. This act will introduce a number of restrictions on entry into the territory of Russia,” Lavrov said.

He noted that as part of the response to the unfriendly actions of a number of foreign states, amendments to the legislation had already been adopted on March 15, providing for the possibility of applying restrictive measures against any foreign citizens, as well as stateless persons. Previously, such measures could only be taken against US citizens.

Lavrov believes that such a step will expand the “influence toolbox” to several categories of foreign citizens.

“These are, first of all, those who are involved in the commission of crimes against Russian citizens abroad. Secondly, these are persons who carry out unreasonable legal persecution of our people. And, finally, these are those who make unreasonable decisions that violate the rights and legitimate interests of citizens and organizations of the Russian Federation,” the minister added.

Recall that at the end of February EU suspends visa facilitation for the Russians. Also some European countries stopped issuing visas to Russians.
