Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurinas Kaschunas said today that Russia is moving troops from Kaliningrad to the Kursk region, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Kaliningrad is a Baltic exclave of Russia, and Kursk Oblast is in the southern part of the country. Ukrainian forces have been conducting an unprecedented cross-border offensive in this area for a week.
The defense minister of Lithuania announced the news about the transfer of Russian troops from Kaliningrad to the Kursk region during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev, according to a video posted on the Ukrainian leader’s Telegram account.
During the meeting with the Lithuanian minister, the Ukrainian president expressed gratitude to Lithuania for its support to Ukraine from the first days of a full-scale attack on Russia, Ukrinform said. “We hope that they (Lithuanians) will be with us until the end and until our victory. This is very important for us,” Zelensky wrote.
According to the president’s office, the meeting also discussed further assistance from Lithuania, especially in the area of air defense, unmanned aerial vehicles and other emergency equipment.
The countries paid special attention to joint measures to develop Ukraine’s defense industry. In addition, Zelensky noted the importance of the security cooperation agreement signed between Ukraine and Lithuania. He also thanked Lithuania for its effective support for European and Euro-Atlantic integration in Ukraine.
As reported by Ukrinform, Lithuania recently announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine, which will include, among other things, short-range air defense systems.
