United States of America speed up the process of sending weapons worth US$200 million or equivalent to Rp Ukraine in the middle of the invasion Russia which is getting crazier.
A senior US official said that the United States could expedite this delivery after President Joe Biden issued a memorandum on additional Ukrainian aid on Saturday (12/3).
“The funds can accelerate military assistance to Ukraine, including anti-tank, anti-aircraft and small arms systems to support Ukraine’s front lines,” the anonymous official told reporters. Reuters.
In the memorandum on Saturday, Biden did instruct the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to regulate the allocation of IDR 2.8 trillion in accordance with the provisions of the Foreign Aid Act.
Under the law, the US president can order the transfer of state assets to foreign parties without going through parliamentary approval.
The funds can be used to help strengthen Ukraine’s defenses, including by sending weapons to holding military training.
The White House and the US State Department have not yet responded to Reuters’ requests for confirmation on details of the use of the funds.
Meanwhile, Ukraine is continuing to press the US to send Javelin anti-tank weapons and additional Stinger missiles to help shoot down Russian planes.
With this decision, the US has provided a total of US$1.2 billion or around Rp. 17.1 trillion in aid for the defense of Ukraine in the past year.
Lately, the US is constantly racking its brains to send weapons and defense equipment aid to Ukraine, especially after President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with lawmakers in Uncle Sam’s country last weekend.
In the conversation, Zelensky urged the US to immediately send aid fighter jets because Russia is still attacking Ukraine.
However, the issue of sending jets to Ukraine is very complicated because the US must think about not triggering a direct conflict with Russia. The US continues to work on a number of scenarios.
One such scenario is to send US F-16s to countries around Ukraine which are now members of NATO. After that, the country delivered Soviet-era MiG jets that Ukrainian pilots could pilot.
However, Russia later warned the US not to coordinate arms shipments to Ukraine through its allies.
