Uzbek workers at a waste treatment plant in the city of Orel in western Russia received mobilization notices and were ordered to report to the local recruitment center. Reuters reports.
Foreign citizens have asked their president Shavkat Mirziyoyev for help.
Moscow has begun the mobilization campaign – the first since World War II last month, when the war in Ukraine stalled and Russian forces began to lose ground. Since hundreds of thousands of men fled from Russia, not to be sent to the front.
This week, Orel authorities sent more citations, including 50 to workers at EcoCity’s waste treatment plant.
However, half of the workers are Uzbek citizens who have passports and ask for the intervention of the president of Uzbekistan.
The mobilization campaign has drawn criticism as warnings have been given to many people who they are not eligible for military service. This prompted Russian President Vladimir Putin to order the correction of all errors.
Uzbekistan has warned its citizens against joining foreign armies, which according to Uzbek law is considered a crime.
