Swedish intelligence warned that Russia “increasingly” poses “a serious threat to its security along with other ‘authoritarian’ states such as China and Iran.
This was stated by the head of the Swedish Security Service Charlotte von Essen, writes “European Truth” with reference to Europe Press.
“Russia and other authoritarian states are becoming increasingly hostile in their actions, and their malign activities are constantly on the move,” von Essen said.
According to her, the deterioration of the current global situation has a “direct impact” on the internal stability of the Scandinavian country.
“World events are also fueling the rise of extremism and the threat of attacks,” von Essen said, calling Russia, China and Iran “the biggest threats” to Sweden’s security.
Von Essen explained that “Russia is currently the biggest single threat” as its actions are “unpredictable” while the dangers posed by China and Iran, while “tangible”, are more “long-term”.
Stockholm has previously stated that Russia strengthen its military potential in close proximity to Sweden when possible, in response to Sweden and Finland applying for NATO membership.
