Russia investigates presence of British special forces in Ukraine

LONDON, KOMPAS.com – Investigative agency Russia is currently investigating media reports suggesting the presence of special force military English, Special Air Service (SAS), from Ukraine.

According to Russian media reports, RIA NovostiSAS scythe experts have been deployed to western Ukraine, as reported ReutersSaturday (23/4/2022).

RIA Novosti quoted a Russian security source as saying that about 20 SAS members had been sent to the Lviv region.

The SAS is an elite British military force trained to carry out special operations, sensing and counter-terrorism.

In a statement, Russia’s Investigative Committee said it would follow up on reports from the media.

RIA Novosti accused, the SAS troops assisted the Ukrainian special services in organizing sabotage on Ukrainian territory.

A UK Ministry of Defense spokesman declined to comment when asked for comment from Reuters on the presence of SAS forces in Ukraine.

Earlier, Britain said it had sent military trainers to Ukraine earlier this year to instruct local forces in the use of anti-tank weapons.

On February 17, a week before Russia invaded Ukraine, Britain said it had withdrawn all of its troops from Ukraine, except for those needed to protect its ambassador.

It is not clear what steps the Russian Investigative Committee plans to take in response to the involvement of the SAS in Ukraine.

However, if troops from NATO countries were actually present in Ukraine, the consequences would be serious.

The reason is, Russia has previously warned the West not to block its invasion of Ukraine.
