“There was a civilian here and the car was burned. He was helping to save people.”

The Ukrainian government said at least 10 people were killed and 58 injured in the shelling.

In particular, he said that “a missile landed right next to a supermarket in Kherson Square, injuring civilians.”

It has been exactly 10 months since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Ukraine last month regained the strategic southern city of Kherson, which had been lost to Russia at the start of the war.

Ukrainian President Zelensky, who returned from a visit to Washington, US, posted a photo of the gruesome scene on social media and wrote: “This is real life for Ukrainians.”

“Our struggle will continue unabated and we will restore freedom to all Ukrainians,” he said in a special Christmas address.
